![]() ![]() In the later afternoon either the north or south winds pick up. In the morning the wind blows out of Spanish Fork canyon and chops up the lake. Unlike most lakes the water is most calm between about 10 and 3. Toward the end of the season it gets hard to find even 10 feet out there. ![]() If you head too far east, west, or north you will lose a few feet of depth. When the lake is full like it is right now, you can probably find about 13.5 feet deep water south west of the Provo harbor in the middle of the lake. ![]() Or essentially south west of the Provo harbor. I do this partially because of having more ramps but mainly because the deepest part of the lake is in the middle toward the south end. I almost always launch out of Provo even though there are 2 harbors closer to me. It has 4 launch ramps and can handle a lot more launch and load traffic. All of the launch area's have only one ramp and get VERY busy on Saturdays and Holidays with the exception of Provo Harbor. They are at Provo Harbor, Lindon Harbor, American Fork Harbor, Lincoln Beach (very south west part of the lake), and in Saratoga springs. There are several launch areas on the Lake. Lets just keep that little secret to ourselves. So the water is always a brown/green color. Every time the wind blows the whole lake gets churned because it is so shallow. Years of runoff into the shallow lake has left the lake bottom covered in a couple feet of really fine silt. That keeps them away from my boating lake! The lake used to be pretty gross and had some pollution back in the days of the Geneva Steel plant. When people tell me that, I just agree with them. People have a misconception about the lake that it is gross and polluted. I am in Lehi so I spend most of my time at Utah Lake.Ī few things about the lake. Any other draw backs to boating at Utah Lake all summer? Or should I go somewhere else? I would really appreciate any thoughts from the guys in Utah. I'm in provo so Utah lake is the most convenient, but because its so shallow I understand it may not be great for getting a good wave. I just bought my first boat, an 03 Avalanche and am wondering where the best lake to surf is in Utah. ![]()
